It’s been a little over a year since I started writing for Active Motorwerke, and one of my first blogs was about a car being coproduced by BMW and Toyota. The car sounded like a truly potent mix, with the team at Toyota sticking to what they’re good at (electronics), and BMW taking charge of engine development, something they’ve been good at since forever. And while the car hasn’t been fully released yet, some keen eyes have captured a glimpse of what is probably the new Z5 on camera.
Although specific details are hard to get, there are a few rumours out. The engines available should range between 2.0 and 3.0 litre turbocharged inline sixes, which is a fantastic start. Both hardtop and soft-top configurations will likely be available for the Z5. From the limited perspective available in this video, the car looks absolutely beautiful, and it even seems to resemble a Ferrari ever so slightly when looking from the rear. While this article has mostly been a cute little gossip session, it’s exciting to see that two of the biggest motoring powerhouses have been able to come together, and build something which, at the least, looks very very promising. Keep your eyes out, the Z5 is expected to be released around 2018.
