Some things are made to go together, for example, eggs and toast, coffee and sugar, Alfa Romeos and mechanics, the list goes on…..but one recent addition to this list of pairs, is AC Schnitzer and BMW.
The new BMW 1 series packs the sporting excellence you would expect from the company which produces the Ultimate Driving Machine into a fun sized package. 0-100 takes a brisk 4.9 seconds in the M135i model, which is quick, unless you put it alongside the AC Schnitzer variant….
AC Schnitzer have proposed putting in the brutish tri-turbo diesel engine you find in the X5 and X6 models, and placing it in the little 1 series, dubbing it the 150d. BMW has confessed that the technicalities of placing such a gargantuan engine in such a ‘humble’ sized car are not an issue, which is fantastic news. The stock engine is capable of churning out 280kW and 740Nm of torque, however AC Schnitzer revealed at the Essen Motor Show in Germany, that they’ve managed to tweak the engine to produce 294kW and 800Nm of torque! Whilst performance figures have yet to be revealed, we can expect the 150d to be significantly faster than the stock model.
The benefits are not only performance enhancements, but also in the aesthetics department. The AC Schnitzer variant will likely come with a sports body kit, slick wheels and tyres (as they would have to deal with the tremendous increase of torque), upgraded suspension, and a pair of big brakes to slow this rocket down! If the upcoming package is anything like the products AC Schnitzer have given us in the past, then we are in for a real trip!
