Soccer Mums rejoice!! The all-new Range Rover Sport is here, except it isn’t a Sport, nor is it a Range Rover, it’s the brand new Bentley Bentayga. The Bentayga is your typical Bentley, boasting elegance and class in every aspect, with luscious leathers, smooth metal highlights, wood grain panels made from only the classiest of trees, and the iconic grille to top it all off. However it does differ in one aspect though……it’s an SUV.
The first of its kind for Bentley, the Bentayga expands their product range of into a new and previously unexplored field. Much like what the Porsche Cayenne is to the Porsche Carrera, the Bentayga exhibits many of the beautiful exterior constituents we have become accustomed to on the Bentley continental, such as the broad and bulky front grille placed between dual sparkling eyes. Out back the taillights look exactly like those on the continental, which is a good thing. Overall the exterior has a swollen yet well defined look, with flared wheel arches and large indents across the lateral plane of the car, hinting at the sporting heritage backing this car. Almost all the accents have a scent of ‘bling’ to them, however nothing seems overly flashy, and that’s one of the things you’ve got to love about Bentleys.
Inside it’d be fair to be mistaken if you thought you were looking at the inside of a new yacht or a business jet, as the luxury the interior offers is paramount. I could go on and on about how magnificent the interior is, and use massive words and extravagant adjectives to try and describe the interior, but it simply wouldn’t do it justice….Besides, I think the photos talk enough for themselves.
As you would expect from such a prestigious brand, the options list is rather long, with 15 shades of seat upholstery, 15 shades of carpet, and 7 types of wood veneer, 20-22 inch wheels of various designs, and even four-seat and five-seat configurations. You’d be hard pressed to find two Bentleys that resemble each other in every regard.
The Bentayga doesn’t seem to hold back on anything, with a whopping 6.0 liter W12 engine producing a gargantuan 820nm of torque. With such a power output it isn’t surpising that the Bentayga sprints to 100km/h in just 4.1 seconds. What is astonishing is that this is achieved with all the kit on board. Just think about the weight of those multi-function heated massage leather sets, as well as all the electronic screens, and the climate control system! This doesn’t even cover half the things on the car, but you can just imagine how powerful this engine really is.
It is also impressive to see that the engine in this car isn’t simply a brute, but also incredible intelligent, with the option to put the engine at idle when the car is at highway cruise speed in gears 5-8. The intelligent design also expands across to what is called the ‘Bentley Dynamic Ride’. Essentially the system allows you to customize how the car feels in the bends, and contributes to the elimination of lateral roll that plagues most SUVs. Pretty clever stuff!
