Yup that’s right, Mercedes has announced that they are in the process of developing a mid-sized ute, one that is expected to make a large impact in a market that already love their utes.
Mercedes will be the first premium manufacturer to release a ute, one that will compete with the likes of the ever so popular Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger and Volkswagen Amarok. Diane Tarr, the managing director of Mercedes-Benz Vans in Australia, said: “We are very excited that we will be able to perfectly serve customers looking for a vehicle that offers a high level of utility and at the same time has the comfort, safety, and design of a Mercedes-Benz passenger car”.
In the past the company has had much success with their range of commercial vehicles, and in an Australian market where utes from various manufacturers consistently rank highly in sales figures (3rd, 6th and 7th in 2014), it is fair to suggest that this ute will follow suit.
Currently, performance information and specifications are not available as the car is still being developed, however it shouldn’t be long until we find out as the premium ute is expected to be launched in Australia in 2018.
