Italian manufacturer Automobili Turismo Sport has finally, after 51 years, produced a revitalized sequel to the 19634 ATS 2500 GT. The name hasn’t changed, but the car has certainly has.
First impressions would lead you to believe that this was a new Ferrari, and who could blame you? The company was formed by ex-member of Ferrari who were fired during company hardship back in the old days, and so the essence of Ferrari lies deep in the roots of this small manufacturer, and thank god for that! This machine is simply beautiful.
Boasting elegant, gentle lines around the entirety of the body, this car manages keep a fine balance between looking both graceful and sporty, something very few car makers are able to do. The car is an orgy of carbon-fibre, with a carbon-fibre monocoque chassis, and honeycomb carbon-fibre body. All that lightweight material results in the car weighing in at an astonishing 950kg. In between the 4.25metre long body, we find 18-inch wheels at the front, and 19-inch wheels at the back. Although I haven’t been able to find any videos of the car in action, I have a feeling that the stainless steel exhaust, coupled to the 640hp v8 engine, is going to make an absolutely vicious noise all the way up to 10,000 rpm. Yes, that’s right…10,000 rpm!
The makers highlight the fact that unlike most cars being produced today, the ATS 2500 GT is as pure as you can get, really, a barebones racer. You can get the car with a six-speed manual transmission, which will get you from 0-100kmh in just 2.9 seconds. There is no ABS, and in fact, the makers say that when designing the car, they wanted a car that is “not filtered of altered by any electronic device”.
News and information about the car is relatively scarce, which is expected for such a new car. But I think that many of us can agree in saying that we can’t wait to see more of this promising little beast.
