Given to us as a gift worthy of spawning from the heavens, the BMW 1M is an incredible piece of engineering that has proven itself worthy of superstar status in the few years that it has been released. In order to create something so magnificent, BMW’s M division mixed and matched parts from their various production models, which when combined, created something absolutely spectacular. Jeremy Clarkson, a man who can be difficult to please, praised the car to the absolute highest standards, struggling to find any genuine issues with the car. He even likened it to the Mk I Volkswagen Golf GTI, claiming it to be the equivalent of this century. This is incredible praise.
Now when something so phenomenal exists, it is difficult to consider tampering with it in fear of eroding the integrity so firmly harnessed within its soul. However there are some things, which, depending on the individual, only serve to make things even better. The HMS Performance Exhaust is one of those things. The hand made stainless steel system does what you’d expect, yielding increased performance than the stock exhaust with a different note. The stock specs of the 1M are already impressive enough, 0-100 in 4.5 seconds from a 3.0 litre 6 cylinder twin-turbo producing 335bhp, and so when you add the HMS exhaust into the equation, you only serve to enhance this performance. Some might cringe at adding aftermarket parts to a car which has proved itself to be unfathomably brilliant independent of upgrades, however, like adding that extra sugar to a coffee to make it ‘just right’, adding upgrades such as the HMS exhaust allows a more personal, custom-built experience to the 1M.
If you are in the market for upgrading your 1M, first of all, I’m incredibly jealous. But secondly, Active Motorwerke Australia are able to set you up with great performance parts such as the HMS exhaust. We’ve done it before, as you’ve seen in the video, and we can do it again!
